 Complete Specification

Section 10(4) of the Indian Patent Act, 1970 states that a complete specification must include the following:

  • Title of the invention indicating subject matter of the invention
  • A description of the invention,
  • A detailed drawing of the invention (wherever applicable and required by the Controller)
  • A model or sample illustrating the invention. 
  • Full description of the invention including its operation, use and the method by which it is performed
  • Disclosure of the best method to perform the invention
  • Claim defining the scope of invention
  • An abstract describing the technicalities of the invention. 

 According to Section 9 of the act, complete specification must be filed within 12 months of the filing of the provisional specification. In case complete specification is not filed within the specified time, it will become abandoned.
