Agent and Principal as per Law of Contracts

Agent:
According to Section 182 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, an agent is a person employed to do any act for another or to represent another in dealings with third persons.

Principal:
Under the same Section 182 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, the principal is the person for whom such act is done or who is so represented by the agent.

So, it can be said that

  • Agent → the person who acts or represents.

  • Principal → the person on whose behalf the act is done.
