Works in which copyright subsists

 

According to Section 13 of the Copyright Act, 1957, copyright exists in three main classes of works:
  1. Original Literary, Dramatic, Musical, and Artistic Works:

    • Literary: Books, computer programs, scripts, lyrics.

    • Dramatic: Plays, choreography, mime.

    • Musical: Musical compositions (excluding lyrics or actions).

    • Artistic: Paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, and architectural designs.

  2. Cinematograph Films: Any work of visual recording on any medium produced through a process from which a moving image may be produced.

  3. Sound Recordings: Any recording of sounds, regardless of the medium (e.g., songs on a CD or digital file).
