Children in Need of Care and Protection (CNCP)

Under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, a "Child in Need of Care and Protection" is distinct from a "Child in Conflict with the Law" (who has committed a crime). A CNCP is a child who:

  • Is found without any settled place of abode or visible means of subsistence.

  • Is found begging or living on the streets.

  • Resides with a person who has threatened to kill or abuse the child.

  • Is mentally or physically challenged and has no one to care for them.

  • Is an orphan or has been abandoned.

These children are produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), which ensures their safety, education, and health.
