Domestic Award

A domestic award is the final decision rendered by an arbitral tribunal in an arbitration where the "seat" (legal location) is in India and the dispute is governed by Indian substantive law. Unlike a foreign award, a domestic award is the result of an arbitration where all parties are typically Indian entities or the legal relationship is entirely domestic.

Under Section 36 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, a domestic award is enforceable in the same manner as a decree of a civil court once the time for challenging it under Section 34 has expired.
