Difference: Strike vs. Lock-out
These represent the "weapons" used by labor and management respectively during industrial conflict.
Strike (Section 2(q), I.D. Act): A cessation of work by a body of persons employed in any industry acting in combination. It is a weapon in the hands of labour to demand better conditions.
Lock-out (Section 2(l), I.D. Act): The temporary closing of a place of employment or the suspension of work by the employer. It is a weapon in the hands of the employer used to compel workers to accept certain terms.
Key Distinction: In a strike, the employees refuse to work; in a lock-out, the employer refuses to provide work.
